I have tried asking multiple questions about allowing users to hit a download button on my website and that would start a download onto their computer.

my code is for the download button is:

download() 

 const fileRef = storage.ref('AshAngelPaid.jpg')

 var blob = null;
 console.log(fileRef)
 fileRef.getDownloadURL().then( (url) => 
 console.log("this is returned from firebase ")
 console.log(url)
 var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest()
 xhr.responseType = 'blob';
 xhr.onload = (event) => 
 blob = xhr.response
 
 xhr.open('GET', url)
 xhr.send()
 ).then(() => 

 ).catch( (err) => 
 console.log(err)
 )
 

I have used gsutil to allow for CORS configuration. Is there a method other then getDownloadURL() that will return the full data not just a hosted url?

this is in Vue with Nuxt as well.
