I have this app that I deployed to heroku, the user id is sent with the api requests but it's just not working as I wish, on first tries it does the job and the function stop for the right user however when testing it with some hardcore settings like changing the browser, ip address, device, ect.. I got random results. The app crash, sometimes it just not clear the interval..
Not sure how to explain the issue but my goal here is to control the node server from the front-end (I am using react so also JS), the backend needs to run indefinitely, so maybe it because that heroku things sleeps, but I am getting errors even before the 30min, on the app the user can run and stop the function with a click of button, what happens is some users are connected somewhere else and not sure what actually make that bug happen.
Let me know if you wish more additional info, the code below is for the sake of simplicity, the real function take a website screenshot, upload the image for imgur and then update a firebase database, everything is async without callbacks.
const express = require('express')
const app = express()
const port = 1403
let timers = ;
app.get('/api/v1/:user/', (request, response) =>
var user = request.params.user;
if (request.query.running === 'false')
clearInterval(timers[user]);
console.log("Thread stopped for "
+ user);
else
console.log("Thread started for "
+ user);
timers[user] = setInterval(
function apiCall()
console.log("api called - thread running for "
+ user);
, 5000);
response.sendStatus(200);
)
app.listen(port, () => console.log(`App running on port $port!`))
