Ohrdrüsen der Coloradokröte (Incilius alvarius)


Als Parotiden – auch Parotoiden, Parotoiddrüsen oder Ohrdrüsen – bezeichnet man paarige Wülste hinter den Augen mancher Amphibienarten, vor allem bei den Echten Kröten, aber auch einigen Schwanzlurchen (beispielsweise beim Alpen- und beim Feuersalamander) und anderen Taxa. In diesen Drüsenkomplexen werden verschiedene Giftstoffe (Alkaloide) produziert, die sowohl der Abwehr von Fressfeinden als auch dem Schutz gegen Hautparasiten (Ektoparasiten) dienen (vergleiche beispielsweise: Aga-Kröte).
