I have the following code in my htaccess file in my site top directory:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %SERVER_PORT 80
RewriteCond %HTTPS !=on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%HTTP_HOST%REQUEST_URI [L,R=301]
It works like charm when a resource is available. However some folders are protected for browsing (also using htaccess) and in those cases the https redirection is missing.
I mean if I type: http://www.example.com/blocked, I'd expect the server to first convert it into https://www.example.com/locked and only then tell me that I have no access to the folder. In reality, I end up being still at http://www.example.com/blocked and got the 403 error.
I could possibly supplement the blocked folder htaccess file with the redirection, but I'm wondering if there's any way to achieve it with the top-level htaccess.
