I want to validate PHP simplexml object if given tag exists in any child of given XML

Original XML may look like

<XML>
<child1>
 ...
</child1>
<child2>
 <needle>...</needle>
</child2>
<child3>
 ...
</child3>

needle may appear in any of child elements. Is there any efficient to way from syntax perspective to check if needle appear as second child in any of them beside running all children in loop and checking individually? Sort of

XML->*->needle

exists?
