I'm trying to write a Node.js script that creates a child process that replaces its parent, i.e. ends up the same PID.

I've tried the following, but the result is false:

const spawn = require('child_process').spawn

const child = spawn('node', ['child.js'], 
 cwd: process.cwd(),
 env: process.env,
 detached: true,
 stdio: 'inherit'
)

console.log(process.pid === child.pid)

For background, I am running the script in a Docker container and want the child process to remain as PID 1.

  Why do you need this? You can't create a child which replaces the parent, you can only use a function from the exec-family which replaces the parent but I'm not sure whether node offers these functions to the user.
