I am trying to dynamically edit an existing XML doc. Basically, right now my code writes a bunch of new tags at the very bottom of the document. I am trying to find and remove the closing tag of the document and re-insert it at the very bottom under the new existing tags that were created.

How would I find and remove the closing doc tag?

What the XML Doc looks like:

</callHomeRequest>
<!-- Bottom of doc -->
<field>
<name />
</field>

as of now, the field and name of said field is not included in the main file as </callHomeRequest> is the closing tag for it.

How would I get:

...Doc
<field>
<name />
</field>
</callHomeRequest>

What I have tried
I am thinking about using something like
document.getElementByTagName('tagName'), but do not know how to remove the tag name after that. I tried to remove it from the root, but
<callHomeRequest>
...Doc...
</callHomeRequest>
is pretty much my root of the document and is not a child element. All the stuff already asked is about removing child components.
