마라의 석가모니 유혹.


마라 파피야스(산스크리트어: मार पापीयस् Māra pāpīyas)는 불교의 마신으로, 욕계의 최상층인 타화자재천의 지배자이다. 석가모니가 수행할 때 그 깨달음을 방해하기 위해 여러 방법으로 유혹한 일화가 《불설보요경》, 《방광대장엄경》에 수록되어 있다. 한자로는 마라 파순(魔羅波旬) 또는 마라 파비 야(魔羅波卑夜)라고 음차하며, 타화자재천이 욕계의 여섯번째 층이라는 데서 제육천마왕(第六天魔王) 또는 그냥 마왕(魔王)이라고 한다.
